I think the felon and associates may be trying to set up a situation where people will want to keep them in power because of the bills that will come due once the US is not an outlaw nation.
I believe President Trump has shadow companies and proxy users buying and selling oil making him money while he manipulates the market through war. It will all come out eventually.
Trump's claim that he rejected Iranian attempts to seek peace because the terms weren't good enough has been denied by the Iranians, who basically said "Why would we talk to the US? We talked to the US before, and they attacked us. Twice."
I don't really trust Trump OR the Iranian government to be honest about what's going on, but certainly it's very on-brand for Mr. Art of the Deal to pretend that big strong Iranians with tears in their eyes are saying "Please, Mr. Trump, sir, may we have a deal?" and he's loftily rejecting them until they crawl a little more. And if they are NOT talking to him, that would explain why he's lashing out at their infrastructure in a characteristic fit of pique.
The question is, once you've gutted their economy by laying waste to Kharg Island, what then? What else do you have to hold over them? At this point, there's no incentive for the Iranians not to flood the Strait of Hormuz with mines until there are more mines than water, or to sponsor a decades-long terrorist campaign against the US and its allies, and they might very well do both. Trump's attitude, of course, is "Let them, I don't care." But other people are going to pay the price for his childish need to bully the whole world.
I just hope the thugs who run the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are panicking at the ever-increasing costs to their economies brought about by the man they spent billions indulging.

Can one demented person destroy the world economy? I think we are going to find out.
