I don't get this theory at all. It looks like something that makes much more sense in the idealised perfect geometry of a computer rather than on the Giza Plateau. The internals of the pyramids - even the finest built of all, the Great Pyramid - are really rough, so there would never be a nice flat surface during the finishing phase for them to do alignments and ensure the corners remain true. Do it the other way from a levelled base and it is much easier to control the geometry. The theory also ignores that ramps have been found around pyramids at Abydos and at Giza and that the rubble from the demolished ramps formed a good part of the infill of the Giza quarries.
A real problem we have with these theories is that they continue to look at the pyramids through modern thinking about the volumes of material needed, time taken, putative expense and so on. These were constructions of faith intended to last forever designed in a period of absolute monarchic rule where the pharaoh (not that he was called pharaoh at this time) was considered a living god. Yes it might be inefficient to build a pyramid using ramps - but that didn't matter to the people who commissioned them.
I'd recommend John Romer's book 'The Great Pyramid' for those who want an exhaustive discussion of the apogee of pyramid building and how it relates to what came before and after.
