Woman accused of drunken sidewalk chase after child on dirt bike
Authorities say a Spokane County woman drove onto a sidewalk and allegedly chased a child riding an electric dirt bike while intoxicated before later wandering onto a stranger’s property looking for eggs.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and court documents show the incident happened just outside Cheney city limits in the West Terrace neighborhood. Deputies say around 6 p.m. on April 28 in the 7500 block of South Fruitvale Road, Clemente drove her silver Ford Focus onto a sidewalk and chased a child riding a dirt bike, at one point attempting to hit them. The child was not injured.
About 25 minutes after the initial incident, deputies were called to a separate report in the 10700 block of West Melville Road, about a mile away, where a homeowner reported someone trying door handles as he watched on his live security system.
“Could tell that, yes, she had been inside the house,” Lloyd Gaines told KREM 2. “I was able to talk to her for a few minutes and she claimed she was stopping by our house to buy some eggs. I said my wife’s not home, you’re going to have to call her. She was stumbling off the porch and falling all over the place, she was clearly heavily intoxicated.”
When deputies arrived, they found Clemente and her vehicle in the driveway and arrested her. Clemente was released on her own recognizance following her first court appearance, according to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office. At the time, the prosecutor’s office told KREM 2 News, they were still reviewing charges.
Neighbors say the incident turned an otherwise quiet neighborhood into a scene that felt equal parts DUI arrest, road-rage meltdown, and surreal suburban fever dream.
