Wright also floated an unusual idea to address short-term electricity supply needs, telling Baier that the government could activate backup generators located at data centers and even “behind the back of a Walmart” to increase power production.
Chris Wright: “We will take backup generators already at data centers or behind the back of a Walmart and bring those on when we need extra electricity production.”
He suggested those private-sector generators, typically installed for emergency use, could be tapped when the grid requires supplemental electricity. Wright did not outline how such a program would work or whether companies have agreed to participate.
