Trump decides to fix Iran, what could go wrong?
The only thing this “armada” will do is make a bad situation worse.
Convicted felon Donald Trump claims the United States is sending “an armada” to meddle in Iran’s domestic affairs. Nothing will feed the regime’s narrative like the US parking an aircraft carrier off its coast.
The United States has never successfully attempted to referee another country’s domestic issues without making things far worse. If you want to throw gasoline on the hardliner’s nationalist fire, this is the way. Apparently, Donald Trump has not seen this movie before, but I can assure him it does not end well.
“We’re watching Iran,” Mr. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “We have a big flotilla going in that direction, and we’ll see what happens,” he added, describing the force as an “armada.”
Mr. Trump had appeared to back away from threats to strike Iran, saying he had received assurances that detained protesters there would not be executed. Leaders across the Middle East had also warned Mr. Trump that a military confrontation could destabilize the region.
Last week, the Pentagon ordered the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and three Tomahawk-missile-firing destroyers in the South China Sea to head to the Middle East, according to two U.S. officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters.
The Air Force in the past week also sent a dozen F-15E fighters to the region to beef up the strike aircraft numbers, according to the officials.
The Orange Menace claims this is about stability and protecting human rights, while at home attempting to lay siege to Minneapolis, after failing to incite riots in Portland, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The irony is not lost on the average American. Do not forget that across the Caspian Sea from Iran is Russia, which will not look kindly at the United States occupying its neighbor should things escalate.
This will not help Iran, the United States, Israel, or the world. The Iranian people are more than capable of tossing out the Guardian Council and Assembly of Experts if they determine it should be so. Western intervention will delegitimize the protests and enrage the old guard.
The only thing this “armada” will do is make a bad situation worse. Every time the United States steps in to “help” another country, we destabilize it, declare “Mission Accomplished,” and stay only long enough to make the situation worse.

He's also deflecting from his withdrawal of forces from the South China Sea, where they might upset one of his pals.
I’m not a historian but even I know that we have done enough damage in that part of the world that we should stay the hell out of it.
