The saga of the weirdest theme park in the Midwest via Defunctland
Babe, wake up! A new Defunctland video dropped!
A new postmortem of the latest theme park blunder du jour from Kevin Perjurer, wrapped in his usual mix of extensive research and dry humor, is always cause to celebrate. Lucky for us, the subject of his latest video is none other than Celebration City, supposedly a whole city built for celebration!
If you’ve never heard of it, that’s probably because a series of ridiculously shortsighted decisions made to appeal to the core tourist demographic of Bronson, Missouri — which is to say, old, right-wing Christians and their families — tanked the ambitious project in record time. Unfortunately, not even a VeggieTales partnership could save it. Nor could “Extreme Parrots”, an act that I promise is way less cool than it sounds.
Add to that a bunch of reckless spending, weird attractions and the fact that Celebration City was in fact only one half of a confusing two-park experience, and you have yourself a ready-made recipe for one of the best Defunctlands in a while.
