The scary thing for me is my youngest grandson turns 4 in 3 weeks. That means that he isn't fully vaccinated, because the schedule says the second dose is given at at 4. So 3 more weeks, plus 2 for the vaccine to fully kick in and then I'll feel better. Fortunately we live in an area where people believe in vaccinating, so he has only a small chance of infection.
I don't think they are suspicious of science. I think they correctly see that science and critical thinking stand in the way of the ideological goal of turning the USA into a fascist dictatorship. To those ends anything that has to do with science or with actual facts (data) needs to be destroyed. Also the public needs to be trained to simply accept even the most outrageous lie as a given true fact.
