Faced with losing control of the House over his unpopular policies, Donald Trump pressured Texas and other states into gerrymandering Democrats out of office. California reacted by voting to redistrict Republicans out of their jobs in response. After rejecting Texas bid to redistrict without voter approval, the Supreme Court has determined to let the will of California’s people stand.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that California may use a new congressional map approved by voters.
Justices rejected arguments from Republicans asking the court to block district lines they claimed were rigged in favor of Democratic candidates, and their decision was issued as a one-sentence order that did not provide explanation or dissent, reported NBC News.
Democratic legislators drew up the map and voters approved the mid-decade redistricting plan that could give the party a chance to gain five more seats in this fall’s midterm elections.
Suddenly, gerrymandering isn’t as much fun as the Republicans remembered.
So there is a silver lining to this hellscape after all.
This is why I was in favor of the California gerrymander. Tolerance only goes so far, and if you keep getting slapped by the other party then you have to fall back to eye-for-an-eye.
The California bill also includes a timeout clause, although I'm not confident it will work.
I was very conflicted voting for this but when one side is blatantly cheating it makes no sense to follow the rules and lose your country.
