ShamWow guy hears about civil rights, decides it’s all about him
Sparkling new Republican candidate for Congress in Texas, Vincent Shlomi, is proving he is well qualified to join the GOP caucus. Once arrested for beating up a sex worker, Shlomi took to NewsMax to decry discrimination, which he imagines, against himself. Complaining that his Ghostbusters parody video, wherein he slimes a transgender person, is “suppressed” on YouTube as opposed to not being worth watching, The Slap Chop salesperson made disgustingly uneducated comments comparing his crap video to historic discrimination against Black Americans and Jews.
Republican Congressional candidate Vince Shlomi, best known for his television commercials promoting products like “ShamWow” and “Slap Chop,” took to Newsmax Friday to complain that an anti-woke video he published on YouTube was being suppressed, calling the alleged suppression “illegal” discrimination and comparing it to Black Americans being forced to sit at “the back of the bus.”
“The big tech company – the biggest one in the world – suppresses the video, hides the video; I’m getting millions of views on another platform, and then I only get like 100 views a day?” Shlomi said.
“I’m like you know what, I’m going go run for Congress. This is crazy because that’s kind of like discrimination! Like putting you in the back of the bus, or you know, ‘hey, you’re Jewish, go into the bathroom, here’s a ham sandwich.’ It’s like, illegal!”
Attempting to convert his infomercial “fame” into far-right political capital, Shlomi is operating in a deeply conspiratorial, inflammatory, and unserious rhetorical universe. Tying his campaign to slain crybaby Constitutionalist Charlie Kirk, to whom free speech only mattered if it pushed his podcast grift, and playing the victim, proves Shlomi is fit for the Republican Party.
