Noem’s “Right people voting” comment sparks concern over DHS role in elections
ICE Barbie Kristi Noem ignited a political firestorm on Friday by suggesting her Department of Homeland Security has a role in ensuring “the right people” are voting in upcoming elections. Her comments raise concerns about DHS’s limited role in policing elections.
Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, said during a press event Saturday, “When it gets to Election Day, we’ve been proactive to make sure that we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this country.”
That comment about “the right people” voting immediately spread online, with Jonathan Karl, ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent, saying one word: “Extraordinary.”
For the leader of an embattled agency, currently unable to be funded due to a lack of lawmaker consensus on its role or even existence, the Puppy Slayer’s wading so publicly into election rhetoric has critics warning that the line between safeguarding ballots and shaping them is becoming dangerously blurred.

Christ, what an asshole.
# ...we’ve been proactive to make sure that we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this country.”
