New indie shooter lets you hack the game for survival
Boomer shooters — fast-paced, movement-focused, linear first-person shooters inspired by games like DOOM and Quake — have enjoyed a renaissance over the past few years. We’re in an era of proliferation where genre games need unique selling points to stand out, and the recently announced indie game FPS Quest looks more unique than most.
I love a game with a metanarrative. In FPS Quest, both you and your enemies can interact directly with the systems of an intentionally broken game. Clip out of bounds, install shady mods, go wherever you want — but be careful: your frame rate directly affects your health bar.
Any game that uses development placeholder textures as an artistic choice gets a thumbs-up from me.
