Morris Day and Young MC nope out of Trump-linked festival
Continuing to bust moves, Young MC has joined Morris Day in walking away from Trump’s big MAGA-palooza.
The Trump-linked Freedom 250 festival, part of the planned Great American State Fair on the National Mall, is already shedding performers.
However, after his name appeared on promotional material, Day took to social media to say, “Contrary to rumor: Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the Great American State Fair.”
…
Day’s disavowal was followed closely by Young MC, the rap star behind “Bust a Move,” who had also been featured in promotional images for the event.
“I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,” wrote Young MC on Facebook. “The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as “Trump-backed”. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.”
Morris Day said he would not be appearing after his name showed up in promotional materials. Young MC followed, saying the artists “were never told about any political involvement” and that he did not want to play an event he saw as politically charged. Milli Vanilli also disputed being on the bill.
AP reports that Freedom 250 was launched by Trump and is led by Keith Krach. The event is planned this summer on the National Mall. The loudest signal that the carnival will be what you’d expect from Trump: Vanilla Ice says he is still going.
Every festival gets the lineup it deserves.
