“Surveillance Monitor” gets a new meaning.
LG’s screens have apparently entered their “consent is someone else’s problem” phase: some monitors can trigger silent Windows software installs, while some LG TV terms reportedly tell you to warn guests they may be recorded by AI voice features to comply with local wiretapping laws.
TL;DR: Connecting certain LG UltraGear monitors to Windows 11 PCs triggers silent installation of software via Windows Update that promotes McAfee and includes adware-like components and broad permissions (geolocation, online activity, contacts). GamersNexus and user reports confirmed automatic, unauthorized installs, prompting privacy concerns and calls for LG to explain or remove the behavior.

always wanted (as in would actually pay for) listings of technology which do not depend for their function on ever connecting to the internet. or said in a more dubious older way: "dumb". if i'm shopping for monitor/screen, mouse, keyboard, ...vacuum cleaner, thermostat, toothbrush (the list is endless) i want to know which *aren't* collecting data on me and uploading them. is that asking for too much? ("uhm.... yes?") @#$!
Spyware on Windows is redundant, anyway.
