“Jack and Dad,” a father and his LEGO-loving son, are making beautiful music together for this troubled world
If you need a few moments of soothing meditation (and let’s be honest, who couldn’t use some quieting of the mind right about now?), stop what you’re doing and take a listen to the beautiful music that the duo Jack and Dad have been making and sharing with the world on their social media. In most of the videos, Jack, who is fifteen and has level 2 autism, sits quietly at a table building LEGO sets and singing popular songs while his dad accompanies him on an acoustic guitar. Jack’s singing is out-of-this-world terrific, and his dad’s soft and gentle guitar playing is a perfect pairing.
Some of Jack and Dad’s latest videos feature Jack singing “I Knew I Loved You“ by Savage Garden, “All of Me“ by John Legend, and, my favorite, “Hallelujah“ by Leonard Cohen. Lots of folks in the comments mention that Jack sounds a lot like Michael Jackson, and I fully agree — see for yourself in this video, where he’s singing Jackson’s “Human Nature.” Jack’s voice is so clear and bright — he’s so incredibly talented!
In this video, Jack’s family explains that Jack has had two special interests for most of his life — singing and building LEGO creations. They state that Jack was four years old when he started building LEGO sets, and they quickly discovered that “this was the only thing that could keep him still and hold his attention longer than a couple minutes.” They also explain that Jack has been in voice lessons since he was eight. And while he doesn’t have perfect pitch, he does have terrific “relative pitch” and is great at “mimicking sound and learns songs by listening.”
Hear short clips of Jack and Dad’s songs on their Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and longer versions on their YouTube. Prepare to be transported to a much gentler and kinder timeline than the one we’re currently suffering through. Thanks, Jack and Dad, for bringing some calm healing to this very troubled world.
