Families came to Delaney Hall on Father’s Day asking ICE to free detained dads. Instead, a woman was hit by a car, from behind, while protesting at the Newark detention center entrance. Protesters say ICE agents responded not by assisting the woman, but by deploying pepper spray and mace.
About 75 vigil members were positioned near the hospitality tent set up by Eyes on ICE, and about 15-20 autonomous protestors were standing outside the north gate as well.
“We began to see ICE lining up behind the gates,” said Birdie Green, co-founder of Sussex Visibility Brigade and one of the organizers of the event. “That’s when GEO Group employees began driving through in their personal vehicles.”
Green said the woman, who she said is from Minnesota, was hit from behind by an employee’s car.
“She was not blocking vehicles, and could not see it coming,” Green said.
Soon after, ICE agents came outside and deployed pepper spray and mace, Green said.
Nothing says Happy Father’s Day like a protester hit by a car and witnesses hit with pepper spray.

It's just a reminder that ICE is still occupying America, kidnapping innocent people, injuring & killing us.
