ICE finds $70 million for a warehouse, still can’t find the Constitution
If only due process of the law had been included in the budget.
While the rest of the country bellyaches about affordability and cannot find housing or healthcare, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has found $70 million to buy a new warehouse, where they plan to build another “detention center.” There is no indication that the agency intends to abide by the document that limits what they can do inside such a prison.
On the streets, DHS’s cruelty is filmed at great risk to the observers from many angles. Inside an ICE “detention facility,” people are reported to commit suicide and exercise self-harm, like throwing themselves down stairwells over and over. There is no way to trust this agency.
When asked to follow the law, ICE pleads constraint. When offered the chance to expand its reach, it finds the money immediately. Rights are “complicated.” Concrete is not.
If only due process of the law had been included in the budget.
