GTA Online adds purchasable houses after 12 years
With another Grand Theft Auto 6 delay comes more time to keep squeezing money out of Grand Theft Auto Online! The massively multiplayer grind simulator, which began life as an add-on for GTA V but has since mutated into a standalone multi-billion powerhouse, has just gotten another year of reprieve before it’s rolled into its inevitable GTA 6 version.
Another year, another ludicrously overtuned expansion designed to drive people toward the cash shop. Every update has arrived with a new money sink property for players to purchase, and this latest (and potentially last) one comes with something that honestly should have been in the game from day one: a house in the Hollywood- sorry, Vinewood hills.
That’s right, you can finally move your character out of that penthouse they’ve been squatting in since 2013. As the apparent final goal of GTA Online progression, the mansion will likely run in the tens of millions of virtual dollars, which is a bit dear for what’s functionally just a space to walk around in and drink juice. Especially given that the mansion itself isn’t even an original asset; it’s just a recolored version of Devin Weston’s home from GTA 5‘s story mode. I know most of the dev resources are on GTA 6 at the moment, but I didn’t expect it to be so obvious.
