GOP state senator gets swatted after defying Trump
An Indiana state senator who didn’t fall in line with Trump’s redistricting scheme found himself on the receiving end of a swatting stunt. Just hours after the former president publicly called him out, deputies were dispatched to Sen. Greg Goode’s home in Terre Haute after someone sent an email claiming violence was underway inside.
“While this entire incident is unfortunate and reflective of the volatile nature of our current political environment, I give thanks to God that my family and I are ok,” Goode wrote.
Earlier Sunday, Trump criticized Goode and Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray for opposing a redistricting plan for Indiana. Republicans already hold a 7-2 advantage in the state’s congressional delegation.
“Because of these two politically correct type ‘gentlemen,’ and a few others, they could be depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House, a VERY BIG DEAL!” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
Turns out it was just your garden-variety swatting stunt: no violence, just political intimidation wrapped in digital nonsense. Goode says the officers thought they were walking into a domestic disturbance, thanked them for staying cool, and politely suggested that maybe next time the former president could express disapproval without encouraging real-world chaos. While Trump adherents will deny the Orange Menace played any role in the incident, the danger of his rhetoric seems clear and present.
