This word was created in reaction to a redrawing of Massachusetts Senate election districts under Governor Elbridge Gerry, later Vice President of the United States. Gerry, who personally disapproved of the practice, signed a bill that redistricted Massachusetts for the benefit of the Democratic-Republican Party. When mapped, one of the contorted districts in the Boston area was said to resemble a mythological salamander.
I'm from Boston. I disapprove of this practice too.
When Texas redrew its maps last year, it was a gerrymander of a gerrymander, since the Troika redrew everything back in 2020.
In fact, they redrew the Congressional Distict where I live; Dan Crenshaw *used* to be the rep, but the new one shifted north, and they nominated a fascist puppet of a billionaire banker... as befits the fascist-foward demographics of the northern suburbs of Houston.
The demographics of this new district seem a bit more Hispanic than previous, and given The Criminal's behavour towards them, this may well backfire.

I was super conflicted about voting for the California redistributing , but when the other side cheats to win you have to do something about it.
