I'm sure it's just coincidence that the kind of people who set fire to synagogues are also the kind of people who can't set fire to a synagogue without setting fire to themselves while they're at it.
Luckily, the oldest Torah in the synagogue wasn’t harmed, and they also had some used-every-day Torahs that weren’t damaged, so worship can continue. If churches started getting set ablaze the outrage and blowback would reach the skies-these days another antisemitic incident gets shrugged off “what do you expect with those fascists in power?”
Arson at White congregation churches maybe @Becky Heydemann. Arson at Black congregation churches would require several deaths involved to even begin to get public acknowledgement.
"Jewish institutions across the United States have faced a rising tide of threats, vandalism, and violence in recent years, often fueled by the same conspiratorial thinking and dehumanizing rhetoric that have become normalized in public discourse."
Threats, vandalism, and violence are *never* acceptable. But several of those so-called "conspiracies" are sure looking and sounding a whole lot more plausible these days 🤷♀️
"An attack on a house of worship is never just about a building. It is a test of whether a society is willing to draw a line between speech and action, between grievance and violence. When those lines blur, communities pay the price."
Agreed. Here's hoping we are all able and willing to consistently apply those same standards across the board, regardless of which group and/or philosophy is standing on the other side ✌️
