“Cosmic blowtorch” blasts from black hole

A bright blue jet of plasma captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, the “cosmic blowtorch” in the image above has been traced 3,000 light years through space by the Event Horizon Telescope. Its source: the supermassive black hole at the heart of the galaxy Messier 87, 55 million light years from earth.
