California Attorney General Robert Bonta joins the long list of folks investigating why xAI’s self-proclaimed Nazi chatbot keeps generating non-consensual explicit images. Meanwhile, Elon blames the users.
California is the latest large government to wonder why xAI can’t stop Grok from breaking the law. Senators, advocacy groups, and many other countries are demanding that Apple and Google stop distributing Grok apps until the problem is resolved. In light of, or perhaps due to these issues, the United States Armed Services is still rolling forward with the integration of Grok as part of “Whiskey” Pete Hegseth’s strategy to undermine effectiveness.
“xAI appears to be facilitating the large-scale production of deepfake nonconsensual intimate images that are being used to harass women and girls across the internet, including via the social media platform X,” Bonta said in a statement Wednesday.
The AG said his office was investigating xAI over “the proliferation of nonconsensual sexually explicit material produced using Grok.”

On Wednesday, Musk said in a post on X, that he was “not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok,” despite the multiple government queries regarding such images.
Musk instead blamed the creation and sharing of potentially illegal content via Grok and X on “user requests” and a possible “bug” in the Grok system.
This is yet another issue Elon, or one of his companies, is having with California’s DOJ. Apparently, Musk’s strategy is to combine all his companies into one big problem.
