Booby-trapped insoles turn Russian supply lines into a guessing game
The point isn’t to blow anything up, it’s to poison the aid system itself.
Ukraine appears to be leaning into low-cost, high-psychological-impact sabotage, reportedly seeding Russian aid shipments with heated insoles rigged with tiny explosive charges. The bombs are not large enough to destroy anything strategic, but more than enough to make every package feel like a potential trap.
According to Ukrainian outlet Militarnyi, operatives from Ukraine’s special services allegedly inserted explosive-filled heated insoles into shipments destined for Russian military units. The items were reportedly moved with the help of Russian volunteers and charitable foundations, allowing them to pass as ordinary humanitarian aid.
That is what makes this sort of sabotage effective, Treston Wheat, chief geopolitical officer at Insight Forward, told me: it exploits weak points in military supply chains while forcing the target to treat routine deliveries as potential threats.
Each insole reportedly contained 1.5 grams of TNT. That is a tiny charge by battlefield standards. It will not destroy a vehicle or a bunker. But it does not need to. Against a foot at point-blank range, it could cause a serious injury. The value of the weapon is not explosive power but delivery. If troops begin to distrust aid shipments, the wider effect could be on the supply channels themselves.
The point isn’t to blow anything up, it’s to poison the aid system itself. Every donated box, every piece of gear, every small comfort becomes suspect, and the real damage spreads through hesitation, distrust, and a supply chain that starts to eat itself.

Asymmetrical warfare can be *very* effective, as the U.S. neglected to learn from Viet Nam, and is committing the same mistake with Iran.
It costs us *far* more to defend against swarms of relatively cheap drones and missiles than is sustainable for any length of time.
It also depletes our reserves, which would make China happy while it makes preparations to deal with Taiwan.
.
It *also* doesn't help that Russia is providing intelligence and material aid to Iran; and The Criminal decided to ease the sanctions on *both* of them, so they can both make money to buy more arms to be used against us.....
This sure looks like 'giving aid and comfort to the Enemy in a time of war', doesn't it.
Just sayin'.
