How do you know that the motivation of most porch pirates is to feed their families? I don't think that they are all Jean Valjeans. What about all those people knocking over 7-11s? They are just trying to feed their families, aren't they?

Yes! I did notice the car. The idea that these individuals are "only trying to feed their families" is so disingenuous and offensive. Meanwhile: the vast majority of lower income folks are busting their asses working multiple jobs to support their families.
As for shoplifters: there was a statistic from last year which showed (either in CA or NY) that the vast majority of incidents are due to a fairly small group of repeat offenders. Seems like the world would be safer and saner if they were all locked up under a law like the one which Jason is bemoaning and bloviating over 🤷
