The AI boom has discovered rural America, where struggling towns are being promised salvation in the form of enormous data centers, industrial temples to machine learning that reportedly create far fewer permanent jobs and more heat than the factories and mills they replace.
'Hype' is just a polite term for 'outright bullshit'.
Saves on typing, though.
Either way, I trust neither the proponents nor their products, since not *one* of 'em has *ever* explained exactly what is supposed to happen to all the people thrown out of work because of AI.
Not to mention, The Criminal has his tiny, decaying mitts in it, which makes it *automatically* suspect.
How It Works:
The Datacenter Source: Server liquid-cooling loops absorb intense heat from computer chips.
The Transport: Large underground insulated pipes carry the heated water to nearby neighborhoods.
The House Destination: Home heat exchangers extract that energy to warm indoor air and tap water.
The Return: The cooled water loops back to the datacenter to absorb more computer heat.
They are still trying to figure out how to turn it off during the summer.

And when the data center wants more electricity, the local town might just find its power diverted from homes and businesses.
It’s the second coming of the robber barons. What a great time to be alive.
